THE SUPERJESUS
Badlands Bar, Perth, Fri 06 September 2019
Violetine
After a twenty odd year absence, and I believe thanks to the prodding of one Sarah McLeod, Violetine reformed for this tour.
No rust appeared to have gathered as they looked and sounded cultured as they worked their way though their set to a much appreciative gathering.
A 90’s indie oriented sound the rocked out in their way and style that drew applause and cries for more..
THE SUPERJESUS
With Sarah Mcleod leading from the front, a born show person, who’s irrepressible character lights up the room and reflects the love that fills it, The Superjesus rocked through their set with sweat and passion.
The Perth crowd were loud and proud in their appreciative, enthusiastic, zealous and fervent in their appreciation.
Sarah was surprised by the number of “live Superjesus cherry busting” music aficionados which goes to prove that Perth does indeed want The Superjesus.
With a new single “The Impossible” and the “Sumo 20” live album both recently being given birth you don’t have to be an Einstein to guess the majority of the set list. The odd surprise or two with reworking of some of the older numbers (if only my memory cells were still functioning).
With such strong compositions such as “Saturation”, “Gravity”, “Down Again”, “Love and Violence” (Sarah’s view on relationships) and “Secret Agent Man” et al played with skill and energetic enthusiasm each band member played their part.
Jason, guitar: solid, hitting the right notes at the right time but not flash in his delivery;
Travis drums: power, energy, on the beat, just the right amount of fills and thrills, majestic beard;
Ruddy “The Chef” Bass: pulling it all together, stoic and strong, always there influencing the mix;
Sarah, guitar and vocals : singer songstress with powerful vocals, entertainer with never ending shapes, a chameleon of the guitar, conductor and crowd orchestrator.
With crowd interaction and sing-alongs added to the impromptu energy this was a night of pure Rock’n’Roll entertainment at it’s finest, Australian made and Australian played.
